tactile collects nothing. No account, no analytics, no crash reports, no update check. The app has no network code at all, so there is nothing that could send your data anywhere. A firewall like Little Snitch will never see it connect.

The app

tactile needs Accessibility permission, because macOS will not let any app hear key presses without it. From each key press it reads one number, the key code, which says where the key is on the board, not which letter you typed. It picks a sound with that number and then forgets it. Nothing is logged.

It stores its settings on your Mac in com.misha.tactile: on or off, volume, the switch you picked, the output device, mouse and scroll sounds, the apps it stays quiet in, and a count of how many keys you have pressed. The count is a number, not a record of keys. Run defaults read com.misha.tactile to see all of it.

Password fields stay silent. macOS hides them from every app while secure input is on, tactile included.

This website

No cookies, no analytics, no third party scripts, no fonts from anywhere else. The page plays sounds in your browser and counts the keys you type on it; that count lives in your browser's local storage and never leaves it.

The site is hosted on Netlify, which keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser, the page requested) for running the service. See Netlify's privacy policy.
